Apply for an Amex personal gold card and get up to 65,000 Member Rewards points (see pic below), which will be equivalent to at least CAD 650. In order to get this 65,000 points, the following tasks need to be completed:
- Spend CAD 3,000 within first 3 months of card membership and get 50,000 points
- Spend any amount between 14th to 17th months of card membership and get 15,000 points, i.e. you will need to keep the card for a second year which means you will need to pay annual fee for second year
This is a metal card with two colors available (Gold and Rose Gold, see pic below). The annual fee is CAD 250, but by taking advantage of this welcome bonus you can still pocket some gains after two years of holding this card. Here is the math:
- As mentioned above, the 65,000 points will be equivalent to CAD 650 at least, if they are redeemed for statement credit, not to mention that the points can be converted to Aeroplan or other programs for maximum value
- The annual fee for two years will be CAD 250 each, which will be 250*2=500.
- This Gold card comes with a CAD 100 travel credit every year, so to reduce the annual fee, you can book a refundable travel through Amex travel and cancel the travel after scooping the $100 travel credits.
- So the gain is 650-250-250+100+100=350 at least, not to mention that this Gold card will provide you with the following benefits
- $50 Nexus credit every four years
- 4 times access to Plaza Premium Lounge
- annual fee waived for first additional card
